In the Corner

Just stopping by to make a little progress report.

I was really hoping I could roll b996 out with the Live 9.12 release, but it simply didn’t happen. I’ve been having some fundamental problems working out the logistics of how to integrate the new functionality of b996 with the legacy behavior of Monomodular. It didn’t really become apparent until I was forced to work with the new methods on the many different controllers that Monomodular supports…sometimes you just don’t know until you get there. I found quickly that I’d painted myself into a corner with the new methods, and often the only good solution for these types of problems comes at the price of patient and steady gnawing at the issue. At least I’m not wearing a silly hat this time…

I’ve been having some even more fundamental problems with time management and willpower. You see, there exists an inverse ratio here: Willingness to contribute time versus the need to accomplish the task for my personal use (since this is freeware, my real motivation here is for personal use…although, in the end, the stakes are much larger for this release). I only use 2 of these control surfaces, for which the codebase is more or less stable at this point (as well as the mods that I use with them). I’d been remiss to spend a huge amount of time on the rest of the pack until I was sure the methods I’d been using are going to work universally; that’s the whole point, actually. Add to that the demands of my actual “profession(s)”, and what you get is a very cranky coder. Perhaps slightly lazy, as well šŸ˜‰

Last night while incorporating b996 methods for MonOhm, I finally made the breakthrough, both in design and implementation, that has been holding me back from finishing things up. I won’t go into the details, but you’ll see the new MonOhm script available on github this week.

I had already pushed several of the new scripts to github since my last post. Currently, there are b996 versions available for Base, CNTRLR, Code, LaunchPad, and (shortly) Ohm. The earlier releases were mostly finished, but now they’ll need to be reworked a bit since I’ve concreted the new methods. I’ll also need to do extensive work to all the mods in order to accomodate the new addressing system. Finally, there’s the wonderous joy of documentation. Don’t waste time trying this stuff out unless you really have some time to waste. For more than any other reason, it’s completely disorganized and I won’t have time to document it until it’s finished. However, if you’re interested in testing the final release before it comes out, please drop me a note; I will definitely need some guinea pigs for the installer and scripts, and any volunteers to help document things are more(…more…MORE!) than welcome.

Cheers, happy blinking šŸ™‚

  1. Hello! Big thanx for your work. I just started to trying install monomodular on my computer. It’s OSX 10.8.6 Live 9.0 and max4live 6.1. And i’m trying to use a novation launchpad as controller. I got a question with zeroconf and serialosc.maxpat. Which version i should use? http://monome.org/docs/app:serialosc:zeroconf?do=revisions ( here is all their releases) and where exactly i need to locate file serialosc.maxpat. As i thought there is no full information on the wiki. And they got new versions that works without zeroconf and i really don’t know what to use.

    • To be honest, I’m not sure at the moment….it’s been a while since I looked at it and it appears they’ve changed that page again since the last time I looked into it. I’ll have a look tonight or in the morning and get back to you šŸ˜‰

      • Well I got some success! I installed all manually. It was a monomodular b996. In b995-9 launchpad is working, but does’t switch to modMode, in b994 nothing work at all. All ways of the folders was the same, i just take the last zeroconf externals and serialosc.maxpat. And i got workable boinngg and modlink with Kolorit ! (so it’s mean that zeroconf is working, i think) hex was workable too but it doesn’t match the 64 grid of launchpad. Now i just wish to find patches that will work for my really LIVE music experience, can you tell witch i can use on the fly with launchpad? ( of course if they will be in released b996) or maybe where i can find them except maxforlive.com Big thanx for your work, it was just 2 patches that workable with monomodular b996 but even they opens really good opportunity to work like musician, not the midi clip drawer. It’s really great that all can work really another way, i mean more for people that want to play music and not just sitting in front of the controller and get stuck with it functionality, cause the company want only that i will go to the shop and buy second controller just because it will have some another small option.

  2. so b995 won’t work with llive 9.1.2 correct?

    • Sorry for the delayed reply, I’ve been out the last couple of days. Generally, the b995 patches will work with any version of Live 9. However, the scripts are still out of date to work with 9.12….this is an oversight, and I’ll hopefully have it corrected today.

    • It does now….everything except for AumPC20/AumPC40. Those will need a rather major revision, and I’d rather just ball it into the b996 stuff. It will be done soon….

Everything else compiles, but I haven’t had a chance to check it out extensively. I really need some feedback in this regard. If someone finds an issue, please report it, as I don’t plan on revisiting this b995 stuff very extensively, however I’d very much like to provide a “release” link in github once I have everything in its proper place. Thanks!

  3. Hi Amounra,

Thanks for your great work on all the stuff here and what you done for the Livid CNTRL:R (I love the drumsteppr, synthsteppr and hex).

The other thing I really loved (because since 9.1.2 I couldn’t use it anymore) is mono modular on my launchpad.

I just seen a message that it should work again, so I will try this out in a few minutes. If you need some people to check your work and give you feedback, just let me know, because I am known to push Anleton and all the applications I use for my controllers to the very limit.

    Looking forward to your reply.
