I was modifying the midi mapping on my Alias 8 using the offline Livid editor in Google Chrome. I was undoing a lot of stuff and so I hit the “restore default” button. Big mistake. It made it effectively unusable – pouring out random data (tested in midiOX and Ableton). I had inadvertently rolled back the firmware from 0.1.5.5 to 0.1.5.4… Something was horribly wrong though. It was definitely related to the firmware.
Not worried, I used the online livid editor and the prompt came up: “firmware update available” so I followed the link… 404. Oh dear.
Please please can someone link to a repository or suggest a way to fix with code?

I believe there is a solution which involves the cooperation of someone who has a functional Alias 8. I posted about this on the gearslutz forum: https://bit.ly/2xvUmRe
1) install the livid bootloader http://lividinstruments.com/firmware…tLoader_26.exe
2) Hold down the top right rubber button on the top row while plugging in the controller. – When you plug it in you should see the top right button blink. – This indicates you are in bootloader mode.
3) Export the hex file from the Alias 8 (which is the firmware) and save it.
4) Share it with the community.

So this is my issue – it would be a shame to dump this great machine just because of a 404 website. Can anyone help?

Yes! Problem solved. That is exactly what I need and I’ll be keeping copies of it from now on!
Not often does the world allow me to redeem my blunders. Thanks Amounra!

May 12, 2021 at 4:10 pm #1022conanbMemberIt’s ok. Got it sorted. I do have a problem with the faders tho. Seem to be jittery in Ableton Live. Any tips on cleaning them?
May 17, 2021 at 7:38 am #1028amounraParticipantDid you turn off the expansion slot dip switches on the back? Sometimes having them on can cause jitter/instability…..

January 9, 2022 at 3:47 am #1063bradpoolerMemberHi, firstoff thank you for keeping all this stuff alive and thanks to Frank for hosting this online(offline) editor. I am having issues connecting to my Alias 8, but hoping you’ve seen this error before and can help me!
Error: there are not matching MIDI in/out ports on your system! Please check your controller connection and configuration
This is when I select “Alias_8 Port 1”. “Alias_8 Port 2” is blank as well but with no error.
Thanks!
